Jayda crosses the religious divide

What has an English Catholic, the grandaughter of Anglicised Dutch and Irish Catholic immigrants and a proud ‘Essex girl’ to do with Ulster Unionists?

Jayda Fransen Britain First leader NI Northern Ireland.pngTo be honest, we’ve no idea but Jayda Fransen clearly thinks she’s the very woman to lead Northern Ireland’s protestant contingent to victory over… well… other Irish people apparently.

This weekend the heroine of the Battle of Hexthorpe, this Roman Catholic of Jewish ancestry who ran so bravely from the children of a small South Yorkshire mining village seems set to take on the Irish Catholics of her own ancestry in all their paramilitary splendour. You really couldn’t make it up… and so we didn’t.

Amid the barely audible cheers of a couple of dozen Belfast bigots, watched by bemused (and armed) police from the Royal Ulster Constabulary, Fransen declared herself the unelected leader of Ireland’s Unionists.

This really could end in tears.

Biffers, Islamists, God and me

I’m not really very religious but I thought perhaps I should have a little word in God’s shell-like. Too much stuff didn’t make any sense. So I sat down in a quiet room with curtains drawn and meditative candles duly lit, all set to talk to my maker.

It wasn’t a long conversation but it seemed to straighten a few things out for me. It went like this…

More arrests to come

The last few days have been something of a whirlwind of celebration for Team EBF. Whilst the Biffers were accusing everyone in UK of treachery for not celebrating Easter enough, they also gave us something else that everyone who cares about this wonderful land, Christian or not, could celebrate without reservation. They gave us evidence of their own imminent demise.

time to celebrate

The hilarious way they try to downplay the importance of the ‘political uniform’ offences under various public order acts is a treat to behold. On the one hand they keep banging on about how they’re ‘a registered political party’ and on the other they regularly conduct very public conversations about uniforms and insignia on social media – uniforms they then wear on ‘official’ party demonstrations. They just can’t have it both ways!

Then there are the flash (should we say ‘fash’) demonstrations outside and sometimes inside Mosques, council offices and anywhere where they think reasonable numbers of brown people and/or Muslims might congregate. These are clearly and obviously intended to incite both racial and religious hatred, also illegal under the above acts as well as a host of other related pieces of legislation.

Perhaps most significant of all though are the ‘Christian patrols’ where uniformed Biffers, armed with sticks, decidedly nasty looking gloves, themselves very reminiscent of knuckledusters and who knows what else turn up as self-appointed guardians of a faith that doesn’t want them to harass Muslims on the streets. This is clearly a public order offence, even without the offensive, discriminatory and misleading literature. This string of very serious offences, together with their hateful presence across social media amounts to sedition, incitement of civil war and treasonous attempts to sow discord through the nation, shows  them working hard to alienate and alarm significant factions of the British population.

And still the Biffers complain that the police should be off catching proper criminals.

We have news for you Biffers… that’s exactly what they are doing!

We anticipate even more arrests to come. That’ll be good!

The agenda-free ‘Quran man’

This Britain First Facebook meme is priceless!

The caption tells us that ‘The Quran Man’ had no agenda. Oh really?

Then what exactly did he expect to achieve by approaching Muslims to explain their faith to them, Quran in hand and a few cherry-picked verses marked in case he forgot them?
What positive outcome could ever come from lecturing believers in the street about a faith that you don’t share?

BF German Quran man FB meme.png
Not so very long ago Dutchy Fransen was making a nuisance of herself outside a Mosque when a policeman reminded her of some of the sillier verses in the Bible. She was outraged!

How is this different?

We’re sorry that this man was punched. Here at EBF we’re always sorry to learn that violence has broken out. There should be better, more civilised ways of dealing with political and religious differences than by hitting or even killing each other (Biffers take note). But to suggest that ‘Quran man’ wasn’t deliberately trying to provoke just that sort of reaction is ludicrously transparent.

Come off it, Britain First. This is one of the most transparent lies you’ve ever told.

Are you starting to get desperate?

Fun with trolls!

EBF Troll hunter badgeWe’ve been having fun with trolls on the blog lately. As usual the same old accusations have been brought up from supporting terrorists to enabling paedophiles. Equally predictably the trolls, whilst advising us to read history, seem to have no grasp of the relevant facts themselves.

It’s because we understand history that we oppose neo-nazis like Britain First so vehemently. We know only too well what happens when religious and racial groups are demonised and alienated. We saw it in nazi occupied Europe, we saw it in the former Yugoslavia, we saw it in Rwanda and, much to the Biffers’ dismay, history saw it when European Crusaders invaded the Holy land, slaughtering Muslims, Pagans, Jews and even fellow Christians as they went.

So – just to be clear…

We oppose terrorism from ALL quarters, including terrorists like the Biffers.

We oppose ALL paedophiles but not all members of any religious group.

We don’t hate white people – we just don’t think white skins make us special.

We don’t hate our country – we just have compassion for others.

We don’t support sexism – we just prefer to address real issues rather than overly-simplistic generalisations.

We don’t support rape – we just don’t blame ALL members of a particular demographic for the actions of a few.

We DO despise fascism BECAUSE we understand the lessons of history and refuse to accept the repetition of one of Europe’s greatest mistakes!

Rights the Allies already fought for

Britain First recently posted this (ironic for them) image.

tempFile_2015-10-19-09-07-50

We agree. Those rights include the right to freedom of conscience and religious expression and the right to freedom from discrimination. They also include the right to fair treatment under the law and freedom from exploitation. All these rights are to be found enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which effectively guarantees that Nazi groups like Britain First will never again gain a foothold anywhere in any European country (including UK) that has signed up to it.

These rights are very well established and certainly beyond the gift of tin-pot neonazis to undermine. They originated with the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights before being adopted by the European Convention and latterly introduced into UK domestic law with our own Human Rights Act.

Face it guys – you’ll never be able to revive Hitler’s regime no matter how much rubbish you post on social media.

White converts upset ‘non-racist’ Biffers

BF white muslim 20 comment screensThis ridiculous meme appeared on Britain First’s Facebook page on Sunday 18th October 2015. It was a bit of a dead giveaway from the far right group that protests so vehemently that since Islam is not a ‘race’ they can’t be ‘racist’. We have already blogged about this here.

The case for Britain First’s racist credentials has already been made many times. There is so much evidence of their white-supremacist, hate-filled agenda, from images promoting the myth of ‘white genocide’ to well-publicised policies and propaganda that don’t only mirror, but in many cases directly repeat the tactics of Nazi Germany in the run up to and during World War II. But this particular meme effectively bridges the gap between ‘race’ and ‘religion’ that the Biffers have tried so hard to hide behind for so long.

It’s clear that Britain First sees Islam as a religion for brown people only. In fact their problem isn’t really with Islam at all. They know full well that Muslims are no better or worse than any other religious group. That’s why they devote so much of their time to spreading deliberate lies intended to demonise Islam and promote the fantasy of a Muslim take-over. If there was any truth to their claims the evidence would be plain for all to see – they wouldn’t need to photoshop pictures or promote innocent images with entirely fabricated contexts.

Like other Nazi, ‘white power’ groups, Britain First misrepresents Islam precisely because the Biffers know that they have no legitimate case to make.

It’s not Islam that they hate – it’s non-whites. Islam is just a convenient, superficially acceptable motif that the Biffers use as a convenient proxy for ‘brown-skinned’. This Facebook meme, with its obvious outrage at the fact that some white people are Muslims unequivocally demonstrates their meagre ‘understanding’ of Islam as a religion for non-whites.

As if the meme itself wasn’t enough, have a look at the comments. These statements by rank and file Biffers were all made within just a few hours of the obviously photoshopped image’s appearance online.

Do people really deserve to be hanged, drowned, exiled or shot simply because their religious choices don’t match up with Britain First’s simplistic categorisations of race and skin colour?

Another silly question from Britain First

BF Islam 2050 think about our children minority nationWell that’s that then. The girls are off to Granny’s for the day and Hubby and I are just about to set off for Burton to enjoy a quiet lunch and then heckle some Biffers. But before we go I’ve just got time to answer their latest silly question.

Britain First posts so much about past wars (even dating back as far as the 11th century) that you’d have thought they might know just a little about what they were fought over. OK, OK – they regularly get the stuff about the Crusades wrong but we can forgive them that. Very few people really understand the political nuances that led to the international conflicts of a thousand years ago. But World War 2 – now that’s a completely different kettle of fish. That was fought within living memory. That’s as much a part of our national mindset as Fish & Chips (well, maybe not Fish & Chips but you get the idea).

So it’s surprising that they need to ask why our brave forefathers fought and died in that awful, worldwide conflict. Still – they asked, so we’ll answer.

World War 2 was fought in opposition to Nazis. It was partly about land. Hitler wanted ‘living space’ for the German people which he called ‘Lebensraum’. It was also fought against the evils of Nazism. The evil system of apartheid and oppression that Britain First seeks to establish in modern UK.

So to answer your question, Biffers…

World War 2 was fought by a coalition of allies from many nations and religious groups. It was fought against people like you and one of the results of the Allied victory was the right to freedom of conscience and religious expression.

The ability of people of many faiths and racial types to live together in harmony is very definitely one of the things that our grandparents died for.

Why do you continue to disrespect their memory and their sacrifice by promoting the very thing they gave their lives to overcome?

Why don’t most Christians like Britain First?

Britain First, that well known purveyor of religious hatred styles itself as a Christian evangelical movement. Hardly a day goes by without multiple appeals to the great British public to embrace Jesus and defend the Christian faith against the threat of Islam.

BF full metal jacket evangelism jesus combo

Britain First’s Facebook page is packed with cherry-picked Bible quotes encouraging us to turn away from Sin and devote our lives to the Lord. The Christian sanctity of the family is held up as an ideal, no doubt intended to appeal to the traditional Christian contingent within British society.

Britain First begs Biffers to go out and spread the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus  Christ throughout the nations. Piously quoting the New Testament, Biffers proclaim the love of Jesus to all in the spirit of Christian love, spilling over with love for their fellow men and the milk of Christian kindness.

BF evangelism

What’s not to like?

Well… maybe this…

BF suffer little children evangelism

Genuine Christians understand that their God’s love isn’t limited just to card carrying members of their own particular sect. They understand that there are many good people throughout the world and that whilst they may not agree with Christians on matters of religion that doesn’t mean they are any less valuable to the Lord. They also understand that God’s love demands that they help others – not persecute them. They understand what it means to practice Christian love and charity. That’s why they see right through Britain First’s hypocrisy.

BF refugees not welcome

It’s clear to Christians that Britain First is attempting to hijack their faith to justify their own divisive hatred. There’s nothing Christian about Britain First’s hate-filled agenda.

wpid-2015-05-19-21.56.18.jpg.jpeg

It’s a strange brand of Christianity that thinks the racist, murderous policies of Adolf Hitler had merit. It’s an unusual Christian who supports Enoch Powell’s white supremacist perspective.

BF Enoch Powell FB 2

The fact is that Britain First uses Christianity in the same way that after shave salesmen use celebrity endorsements. They pretend to be Christians so that they can milk money out of Christians.

BF Luton judge comments offensive extremist mosques

But, like many people who try to misuse Christianity they have a poor understanding of just what Christianity is about in the 21st century. They have underestimated modern Christians, their sophistication and understanding of scriptural metaphor. Very few Christians in modern UK take the bible literally. They know how to extract the message from the Bible – you know, love, compassion, charity and the rest, without having to take every word literally. If Golding and Fransen were half the Christians they claim to be they’d understand that. And they wouldn’t post stuff like this…

BF creationist evolution evangelism

The truth is that Britain First sees Christianity in the same way that it sees Islam. It’s an excuse to provoke tension and in so doing create a marketing opportunity. Fear of the outsider is a great marketing tool. Frightened people are much more likely to cough up their money in support of the person who claims to have the solution. So Britain First borrows the technique of security alarm salesmen and life insurance brokers everywhere.

They create a fear…

…and then they exploit it for money.

Now look at the currency. That’s not pounds sterling – it’s dollars. Take a moment to think about that. Look at the flags. BRITAIN FIRST is courting America, Canada and Australia. What’s that about?

Has the penny dropped yet?

Britain First is trying to appeal to the religious right wing of the Americas and the Antipodes. That’s what all the Religious fundamentalism is about. That’s why they even posted ‘British’ stuff like this.

BF America Canada combo

That’s why they’re proud to be American (even though they think it’s Canada).

Britain First is a cynical money-making opportunity hijacking a religion it doesn’t understand and a country they can’t find on the map for personal profit. Is it any surprise that real Christians (and most Americans) see right through them?

Obvious really, aren’t they?

Halal certification. It’s a business thing.

Our thanks to an EBF supporter who sent in this article explaining the reality of Halal (and other) food certification labels.

6 halalOn Britain First you’ll often see lots of people who are upset about halal food. Never Shechita (Kosher), by the way, just halal. Many claimed that they are ‘not bothered about animal welfare’ but that they don’t want to eat anything that’s had a ‘mumbo jumbo prayer to a false god’ said over it. Most conflate non stunned slaughter with ‘halal’ not realising, or not wanting to know that ‘halal’ covers a much wider range than the method of slaughter and the saying of a blessing. Halal simply means ‘permissible’, something that’s allowed. Anything that is not allowed is ‘haram’ All of the major Abrahamic religions have dietary restrictions. Christians, Jews and Muslims are not supposed to eat pork, and Christians are forbidden to eat shellfish.

2 vegetarian societyLeviticus 11:7-8  :

And the pig, because it parts the hoof and is cloven-footed but does not chew the cud, is unclean to you. You shall not eat any of their flesh, and you shall not touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you.

4 veganLeviticus 11:10 : But anything in the seas or the rivers that has not fins and scales, of the swarming creatures in the waters and of the living creatures that are in the waters, is detestable to you.

Shellfish and Pork are ‘haram’ to Christians, Jews and Muslims although it seems that Jews and Muslims are much more likely to observe these laws.

1 Gluten freeIn addition, while alcohol is not strictly forbidden in the bible, drunkeness is frowned upon Galatians 5:21 : Envy, drunkenness, orgies and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Since practicing Muslims and Jews observe these religious dietary requirements, they are careful about what they eat.  Some products may contain gelatin derived from pigs and some may have ‘hidden’ alcohol.

It’s pretty obvious that you are buying pork if you buy pork chops or bacon, it’s pretty obvious that you are buying alcohol if you buy a bottle of wine – but some products have hidden pork products and may contain alcohol. Did you know that fruit pastels contain gelatin? Did you know that baked products containing vanilla extract may contain alcohol? If these ingredients are forbidden for you to eat, wouldn’t you like to know that they are in the product so you can avoid it? What about if you are a vegetarian? Or need a gluten free diet? Perhaps you’re allergic to dairy, or prefer your produce to be organic or soil association approved. Vegetarians and vegans would also need to avoid those fruit pastels.

3 soil associationFor many years, people with special dietary requirements have had to stand about in the supermarket aisles, trying to read the small print on the back of the products – and some of it is VERY small. It used to be the case that anyone with these dietary needs had to spend a lot of time carefully selecting products, or stick to the few they knew were safe to eat if in a hurry.

But the food industry is big business and could easily lose sales if they are missing out on the purchasing power of a percentage of the population. Not about to miss out on business, food certification became an eye catching way to make sure that your product is SEEN to be safe, and seen quickly. Certification boards were set up to inspect food for it’s content. If the food met the boards standards they were awarded with a label that set their product visibly apart from others (that may also be safe to consume.) The boards charge the manufacturers a fee to display such labelling but this is a worthwhile overhead for manufacturers to have.  It’s a form of advertising. Those certification labels shout loudly from the shelves that the product is safe to consume, whatever dietary requirement it meets.

It is much easier and quicker to shop when you can look for a familiar and trusted logo on show, and you are more likely to choose the product that you can easily SEE is safe to consume, than to read all the small print on others, which might be equally safe. So food certification applies to many food types.

Halal certification is a business thing.

It’s not funding terrorism, it’s increasing the manufacturers sales, which makes it simply good business sense to have your food products certified ‘safe’ to consume, for every consumer.

Remember too, that air is also halal, and take a good deep breath of fresh air, and count to ten the next time you have to explain to a bigot the way business works for increased profits.
