Simple solutions to complex problems

Every complex problem has a simple solution – and it’s always wrong!

The current refugee crisis is the result of a complex conspiracy of circumstances involving geo-politics, financial exploitation, religious tensions, racial stereotyping and opportunist extremism. That’s exactly the sort of complicated melting-pot of variables that Britain First is least equipped to comprehend. But that doesn’t stop the Biffers from wading in with their ill-conceived suggestions.

It’s hard to imagine just how desperate you would need to be to leave everything you have and walk across hostile territory to a foreign land, risking death from exhaustion, exposure, drowning or even kidnap and slavery along the way. We at EBF freely admit that we just cannot imagine how that must feel – and we count ourselves fortunate because of it.

Such desperation is far beyond our experience. All we really know is that the decent thing, the compassionate thing (and for those of us who believe, the Christian thing) is to help our fellow humans in their hour of need.

Let’s have a look at what the ‘Christian’ Biffers want to do. How would they handle the situation?

BF Greece refugees comments 1

It seems that they have a very different view of Christian charity from the rest of us. It’s small wonder that every single British church group has condemned their rhetoric and their actions in no uncertain terms.

BF Greece refugees comments 2

These are not the considered, measured words of intelligent, caring leaders. These are not the attitudes of people we would want to ‘take our country back’ from its current, compassionate state. These are not the ‘elite’ defenders of British values that Dutchy would have us believe. These are callous, hypocritical, ill-informed, bloodthirsty, fascist scum.

These are the people who must never gain power in UK.

BF Greece refugees comments 3

It’s easy to come up with simple solutions when you have no real responsibility for solving the problem. Just like their followers, Fuhrer Golding and Dutchy Fransen have no real world authority (Fransen managed only 56 votes in the Rochester and Strood by-election and Britain First didn’t even stand a candidate in the last General Election). They’re not even a party in opposition – they’re a party with absolutely no elected representatives at any level in UK. They don’t even have any parish councillors (the lowest level of British government)!

So they can spout whatever jingoistic rubbish they like without ever having to think about how to make it work or the damage their ridiculous policies would cause. That’s the one great advantage of powerlessness. You never have to prove what you say – you just keep on saying it and your followers, at least those stupid enough to remain your followers, will believe it and repeat it.

There’s a simple solution to every complex problem. And it’s always wrong!

Bracelets of Division

juden yellow star nazi jewBeginning in Poland on November 23rd 1939, Nazi occupiers forced Jewish citizens to wear distinctive yellow stars on their clothing. The purpose of the ‘badge of shame’ as it was known was to ensure quick and easy identification of Jews at all times. It was, as security chief for France and Belgium, Helmut Knochen later stated “another step on the road to the final solution”. That final solution ultimately brought about the murderous slaughter of 6 million Jews throughout occupied Europe.

It seems unthinkable that such a policy could be repeated anywhere in Europe today. The very idea of forcing people to wear symbols that mark them out seems totally alien in our post WW2 world. And yet…

Earlier this week we were treated to what appears to be a non-story about red doors in Middlesbrough. The original claim by The Times was that red front doors were being used as a sort of ‘coded signal’ to isolate and publicise the whereabouts of refugees so that far right thugs could target them more easily. It didn’t take long for the Home Office to comment and soon the whole thing was the hot topic of the hour.

EBF didn’t say much about it at the time because there was nothing in the reports to tell us how many non-immigrant houses also had red doors. That lack of detail made us suspicious and so we waited to see how the story would develop. Unlike Britain First we actually prefer to report on true situations rather than made up ones. As it stands, one week on it’s still not clear but there is a strong argument that no such discrimination has occurred. We’ll wait and see. It might be true, it might be false.

red bracelet asylum seekers refugees discriminationWhatever the truth about the red doors scandal though there is another story that has much more of a ring of truth to it. That’s not unusual. One media story, whether accurate or not, can prompt people to go to the press with similair tales that really are accurate. This seems to be the case with the second ‘yellow star’ story of the week.

OK, it’s not actually a yellow star – it’s a brightly coloured wristband but the point is the same. According to The Guardian, refugees and Asylum seekers in Cardiff are being forced to wear distinctive wrist bands that identify them to the public. The wrist bands, once removed cannot be replaced and without them the refugees don’t get to eat. That looks pretty coercive to us.

It’s also a lot more plausible, not least because the company in charge of the situation, Clearsprings ready homes, a contractor for the Home Office has admitted to the practice and tried to rationalise it. The original ‘red door’ story was denied – this one wasn’t.
The rationalisation for this practice, so reminiscent of yellow stars in singling out a particular demographic is to do with administration of food. But there must be less discriminatory ways. We’ve been doing the same thing in schools with tickets and other tokens for decades. It’s not hard. Britain’s hostels and food banks seem able to manage to identify and feed people without making them wear badges or wristbands and we’re sure that other methods wouldn’t be entirely beyond the company with the Home Office contract for accommodating refugees and asylum seekers. So what gives?

Theresa May Home Secretary office governmentTwo Home Office contractors are accused of divisive discrimination in the same week. One admits it, the other may or may not be guilty. We have to wonder what is going on in Whitehall when taxpayers’ money is used in such a discriminatory way by people employed by the state and presumably then bound by European human rights laws to avoid discrimination.

We look forward to hearing how this matter has been rectified very soon. This isn’t 1939 and we’re not living in a Nazi state – at least not yet!

View from a barstool #4

Beer 2So another week’s over and another week of seeing my takings suffer as the rest of the home nations nosedive out of the Rugby world cup. BT sports taking over of the Champions league is driving the punters away. The mixed pool team has won another game, much to the chagrin of Beryl who continues to put holes in everything other than the dartboard. I do hear the ladies tiddlywinks team may be short next week.

So what have we learnt from Biffer towers this week? Well they were triumphant in Burton, they still hate the thought of countries taking in immigrants, they love Putin, they adore the Knights Templar International (other real groups are out there) they’ve stayed strangely quiet over a massacre in Sweden and finally as remembrance day comes close they wheel out the old clickbait memes to con (sorry make) money out of their supporters.

Apparently Britain First’s brave 139 protesters were confronted by a few anti’s and bravely stood their ground. This however once again turned out to be a load of rubbish as Antifa, locals and Anti Biffers including most of the EBF office turned out to harass, heckle and generally have a good day out (see EBFBlogger here and here). Once again a huge police presence and shut shops proved what a waste of tax payers’ money and the costs of closing local businesses ensues when Folding and Dutchy come to town.

far right sweden school sword killer Anton Lundin PetterssonThe massacre in Sweden by a white, right wing terrorist and I mean terrorist not a misunderstood kid, not a loner, but a terrorist has led to near silence by the media, right wingers and politicians in this country. It appears to me that a nutter is a nutter whatever race or religion he or she may be. But while every Muslim man or woman is labelled a terrorist by the press or Biffer towers I have to counter that when this happens. I wasn’t the only one whose first thought when I heard the colour and politics of this boy was not Muslim was one of relief, when I should have been showing respect to those that had lost their lives. It must be working in the murky world of Anti Britain First that has made me do this.

But now on to the most important issue of the week (to me) and the outpouring of clickbait from Britain First and it’s offshoots including ones we are still checking on claiming to respect our troops, respect remembrance day, respect the poppy. So here we go, they are begging to get Folding elected, they are begging to stop their computers from being hacked, they are begging for court case costs and once again they are stealing money for their tatty products representing the poppy. And yes I did say stealing, because every penny they take goes into their bank account and is sent not to the armed forces but kept for whatever purpose Folding and Dutchy want to use it for (trip to Hungary, new tyres for their van or to hire a snooker hall for an hour). The unfortunate truth is any money raised does not go to respect our troops or to buy housing (something their memes tell us the refugees are getting) and Folding is still disrespecting our troops nearly 10 years since he wore pants on his head at the Cenotaph.

One of our page readers has challenged Golding to prove where the money has gone. To date nothing has been heard. Many of the good people of the page have been asking us if this page is real, is that page real and it’s got to the point where even we can’t be sure. I have recently had three people in my pub asking me to collect for remembrance day and each time I have said no, not because I don’t want to but since seeing the murky world of Britain First I will only have the Royal British Legion in and then for the rest of the year the Royal Air Force. Two of the three understood why I’m taking this stand, sighed and admitted that most of the pubs were taking this line too. The other got quite angry and insisted that I should allow his box on my bar. He left when I asked for his registered Charity number.

So to all you good souls who give money to respect and honour our troops please be careful where your pennies are going. I would advise sadly that you should only give money to the Royal British Legion this year and politely decline others. Give your reasons, the true ones will sigh and understand – only the shysters won’t.

This is a busy time for me at the moment. In a weeks time I will have completed my move to the South Coast, and my new pub will be halfway through the renovation. At least Beryl won’t be putting holes in the wall, Bazzer complaining about 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 and Gaz telling me every two minutes that the world is better under the conservatives will be a distant memory

Cheers

What Trojan horse?

The Biffer paper is always full of lies, misinformation and xenophobic hatred. That’s not surprising. In fact it’s so commonplace now that we at EBF rarely waste our time on their laughably styled ‘newspaper’. Let’s face it – the paper has so little currency that they can’t even give it away very easily, let alone sell it.

But this one did warrant a little debunking time. Not because it’s any less ludicrous than their usual rubbish but because it has a superficial air of plausibility – at least ‘at first glance’.

We know that people are far more likely to pay attention to and share images than blogs so we’ve put our arguments into a downloadable image. Please feel free to pass this on to your social media contacts, whether by linking to the blog post itself or by sharing the image.

We think this one is really important.

Britain First is lying to you

How many times must we debunk this Nazi lie? It’s not as though Britain First don’t know the truth. They monitor EBF pages constantly, mainly looking for clues to the identities of the Admins, so they must have seen us deconstruct this rubbish before.

But still they come up with the same old crap. This was posted over at Biffer Towers only this morning.

All part of the plan? What plan?

One of our most prolific Facebook administrators, Kit has decided to try their hand at blogging. And what a fantastic debut this is (EBFBlogger).

‘All part of the plan’ What plan? This is quite possibly one of the worst examples I have ever seen of victim blaming. Refugees have lost everything. Their country, their homes, their jobs, their freedom, their family and their dignity. Britain First ARE seriously suggesting that it’s all part of some sort of plan to spread Islam. There are some flaws in their thinking.

BF Islam refugee plan ISIS libel

While SOME in the West are concerned that refugees will change the demographics of Europe, Daesh believe otherwise.
Daesh DO NOT want refugees to seek refuge in the West. They have called it ‘a major dangerous sin, a sin that mortgages the lives and souls of their children’. They are concerned that western influences will dilute their ideal of Islam and the caliphate that they are trying to establish in the middle east. So how can Britain First believe that refugees are all part of the plan to spread Islam?

While we ponder about this, refugees are stuck in the middle of it. They ARE the VICTIMS. They are victims of the West bombing their countries. Victims of the West’s indecision on how to deal with the crisis and they are victims of the brutal Daesh.

Britain First have thrown everything at demonising refugees because they are Islamophobic. They hate all Muslims, but do you think it would matter what religion refugees were? It wouldn’t because they are also xenophobic and racist as well. It’s just that Syrian refugees happen to be, for the most part, Muslim.

Refugees from the rock

No – we don’t mean the Rock of Gibraltar.

We don’t even mean some lonely little island in the middle of the Mediterranean.

This rock is much, much closer to home.

Northern Rock refugees (2)

We’re very grateful to a supporter who sent us in this lovely picture of starving immigrants. It must be awful to be so hungry that you have to queue for hours to wait for charity from a foodbank in a foreign land. How desperate would these people need to be?

Except of course…

northern rock investors

They’re not immigrants, they’re British investors. And that’s not a foodbank, it’s a branch of the Northern Rock. Let’s be honest, Building Society investors and stock holders aren’t typically the hungriest people on the planet. This image was taken years ago when the NR first got into trouble as part of the worldwide banking crisis that is the real cause of the world recession.

Not that the xenophobic right wing would ever admit that. They’re far more likely to doctor images to fit their own agenda. And in typical fascist fashion they didn’t even do a particularly good job of their photo-shopped lies. You’d have think they’d have learned their lesson by now. It’s not as though they haven’t been caught out with cheap photo-shopping before, is it?
