Bracelets of Division

juden yellow star nazi jewBeginning in Poland on November 23rd 1939, Nazi occupiers forced Jewish citizens to wear distinctive yellow stars on their clothing. The purpose of the ‘badge of shame’ as it was known was to ensure quick and easy identification of Jews at all times. It was, as security chief for France and Belgium, Helmut Knochen later stated “another step on the road to the final solution”. That final solution ultimately brought about the murderous slaughter of 6 million Jews throughout occupied Europe.

It seems unthinkable that such a policy could be repeated anywhere in Europe today. The very idea of forcing people to wear symbols that mark them out seems totally alien in our post WW2 world. And yet…

Earlier this week we were treated to what appears to be a non-story about red doors in Middlesbrough. The original claim by The Times was that red front doors were being used as a sort of ‘coded signal’ to isolate and publicise the whereabouts of refugees so that far right thugs could target them more easily. It didn’t take long for the Home Office to comment and soon the whole thing was the hot topic of the hour.

EBF didn’t say much about it at the time because there was nothing in the reports to tell us how many non-immigrant houses also had red doors. That lack of detail made us suspicious and so we waited to see how the story would develop. Unlike Britain First we actually prefer to report on true situations rather than made up ones. As it stands, one week on it’s still not clear but there is a strong argument that no such discrimination has occurred. We’ll wait and see. It might be true, it might be false.

red bracelet asylum seekers refugees discriminationWhatever the truth about the red doors scandal though there is another story that has much more of a ring of truth to it. That’s not unusual. One media story, whether accurate or not, can prompt people to go to the press with similair tales that really are accurate. This seems to be the case with the second ‘yellow star’ story of the week.

OK, it’s not actually a yellow star – it’s a brightly coloured wristband but the point is the same. According to The Guardian, refugees and Asylum seekers in Cardiff are being forced to wear distinctive wrist bands that identify them to the public. The wrist bands, once removed cannot be replaced and without them the refugees don’t get to eat. That looks pretty coercive to us.

It’s also a lot more plausible, not least because the company in charge of the situation, Clearsprings ready homes, a contractor for the Home Office has admitted to the practice and tried to rationalise it. The original ‘red door’ story was denied – this one wasn’t.
The rationalisation for this practice, so reminiscent of yellow stars in singling out a particular demographic is to do with administration of food. But there must be less discriminatory ways. We’ve been doing the same thing in schools with tickets and other tokens for decades. It’s not hard. Britain’s hostels and food banks seem able to manage to identify and feed people without making them wear badges or wristbands and we’re sure that other methods wouldn’t be entirely beyond the company with the Home Office contract for accommodating refugees and asylum seekers. So what gives?

Theresa May Home Secretary office governmentTwo Home Office contractors are accused of divisive discrimination in the same week. One admits it, the other may or may not be guilty. We have to wonder what is going on in Whitehall when taxpayers’ money is used in such a discriminatory way by people employed by the state and presumably then bound by European human rights laws to avoid discrimination.

We look forward to hearing how this matter has been rectified very soon. This isn’t 1939 and we’re not living in a Nazi state – at least not yet!

Rights the Allies already fought for

Britain First recently posted this (ironic for them) image.

We agree. Those rights include the right to freedom of conscience and religious expression and the right to freedom from discrimination. They also include the right to fair treatment under the law and freedom from exploitation. All these rights are to be found enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) which effectively guarantees that Nazi groups like Britain First will never again gain a foothold anywhere in any European country (including UK) that has signed up to it.

These rights are very well established and certainly beyond the gift of tin-pot neonazis to undermine. They originated with the United Nations Universal Declaration on Human Rights before being adopted by the European Convention and latterly introduced into UK domestic law with our own Human Rights Act.

Face it guys – you’ll never be able to revive Hitler’s regime no matter how much rubbish you post on social media.

White converts upset ‘non-racist’ Biffers

BF white muslim 20 comment screensThis ridiculous meme appeared on Britain First’s Facebook page on Sunday 18th October 2015. It was a bit of a dead giveaway from the far right group that protests so vehemently that since Islam is not a ‘race’ they can’t be ‘racist’. We have already blogged about this here.

The case for Britain First’s racist credentials has already been made many times. There is so much evidence of their white-supremacist, hate-filled agenda, from images promoting the myth of ‘white genocide’ to well-publicised policies and propaganda that don’t only mirror, but in many cases directly repeat the tactics of Nazi Germany in the run up to and during World War II. But this particular meme effectively bridges the gap between ‘race’ and ‘religion’ that the Biffers have tried so hard to hide behind for so long.

It’s clear that Britain First sees Islam as a religion for brown people only. In fact their problem isn’t really with Islam at all. They know full well that Muslims are no better or worse than any other religious group. That’s why they devote so much of their time to spreading deliberate lies intended to demonise Islam and promote the fantasy of a Muslim take-over. If there was any truth to their claims the evidence would be plain for all to see – they wouldn’t need to photoshop pictures or promote innocent images with entirely fabricated contexts.

Like other Nazi, ‘white power’ groups, Britain First misrepresents Islam precisely because the Biffers know that they have no legitimate case to make.

It’s not Islam that they hate – it’s non-whites. Islam is just a convenient, superficially acceptable motif that the Biffers use as a convenient proxy for ‘brown-skinned’. This Facebook meme, with its obvious outrage at the fact that some white people are Muslims unequivocally demonstrates their meagre ‘understanding’ of Islam as a religion for non-whites.

As if the meme itself wasn’t enough, have a look at the comments. These statements by rank and file Biffers were all made within just a few hours of the obviously photoshopped image’s appearance online.

Do people really deserve to be hanged, drowned, exiled or shot simply because their religious choices don’t match up with Britain First’s simplistic categorisations of race and skin colour?

Jayda Fransen meets Julius Streicher

Jayda Fransen parenthesis Julius Streicher pic 1Jayda Fransen isn’t only Britain First’s ‘Deputy leader’. She’s also the Biffers’ ‘Press officer’ according to her online biography at BiritainFirst.org. So we thought we’d compare her recent article to the German Nazi Party’s equivalent – Der Sturmer editor, Julius Streicher. The results were very interesting.

There are some differences. Streicher’s work in the 1930s and 1940s was all about demonising Jews. Fransen’s task here in modern UK is to try to make us all hate Muslims. But the tactics are the same, the repetitive simplicity of the message is the same too. It seems that the Biffers are learning their lessons from the Nazis and following the instructions to the letter…

“If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed.”

(Adolf Hitler)

“The people can always be brought to the bidding of their leaders. All you have to do is tell them that they are in danger of being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.”

(Hermann Goering)

It doesn’t take a genius to see that this is  precisely the tactic that Britain First has been using for years now:

  • They’ve over simplified the issue of child sexual exploitation to pretend it’s a Muslim issue alone;
  • They’ve over-simplified the issue of religious extremism to make it seem as though it’s a Muslim issue alone;
  • They’ve over-simplified the problem of violent crime on British streets to make it seem as though it’s a Muslim problem alone;
  • They’ve over-simplified the problem of religious bigotry to make it seem as though it’s a Muslim problem alone.

Can you see a pattern here?

EBF Jayda Fransen parenthesis Julius Streicher pic 2Also, just like the Nazis, Britain First has exaggerated the impact of the UK’s minority Muslim population and likened them to subhumans or vermin. This is precisely what Hitler’s Nazi party did to German Jews in the build up to the second world war.

Julius Streicher wrote in Der Sturmer (the Nazi propoganda newspaper) in 1938…

“The Jews are a people of bastards, afflicted with all diseases, They are a people of criminals and outcasts. They are the carriers of disease and vermin among men . . . A rotten apple cannot be assimilated by a basketful of healthy apples. Mice and rats cannot be acknowledged as useful pets and live within the community     . . . . Bacteria, vermin and pests cannot be tolerated . . . for reasons of cleanliness and hygiene we must render them harmless by killing them off . . . Why should we repress our feeling for cleanliness and hygiene when it comes to the Jew?”

In 2015 Britain First had this to say about Muslims…

Their views on non-white immigrants and Roma gypsies are quite instructive too…

But the real eye opener is the comparison between the rhetoric of Jayda “Dutchy” Fransen and Der Sturmer’s Julius Streicher. If you still doubt that Britain First is a neo-nazi organisation, we urge you to click the link below, download the PDF and see for yourself!

Extreme Jayda PDF buttonSince this was such an eye-opener for us we went ahead and did a similair piece of work comparing BF’s policy stetements with quotes from Adolf Hitler. You can find that report here together with its accompanying blog post. It’s well worth a look.

The ‘not racist’ myth

Britain First’s Biffers love to shout about not being racist. The argument goes something like this…

Islam is a religion. Religions are choices people make. Choices don’t depend upon race. Opposing Islam isn’t racism.

To an extent they’re right. Religions do cross racial boundaries and many non-racists oppose religions for a host of ideological reasons. Many of our own, EBF supporters have made no secret of their opposition to religion, often on the grounds that some religions are themselves quite discriminatory. So it’s certainly true that one can oppose any or all religions without being racist. But….

Opposing religion is one thing. Opposing the people who follow (often are simply born into) a particular religion is quite another.

EBF BF Nazi dehumanisation

This is more than an ideological objection – it’s a form of discrimination. Whether that discrimination is based upon race or religion is less significant than the fact that it is discrimination.

image

The most obvious example of this is the Nazi holocaust against Jews (on both religious grounds and in relation to physical, ‘racial’ characteristics) but there are many others. The atrocities committed both by Muslims and Christians in the former Yugoslavia, the Catholic versus Protestant ‘troubles’ in N. Ireland and the Buddhist persecutions across the Far East are all good examples, not to mention the Christian right’s atrocities in the US and continental Europe. Discrimination and persecution are inexcusable whatever label you choose to give their different ‘flavours’.
image

So if discrimination on religious grounds is just as bad, why do we insist on calling the Biffers racists? The answer to that is easy…. Because they are racists.

Britain First has made it a matter of principle to conflate skin colour and religion. In their world view all Muslims are brown and all brown people are Muslims. It’s a crass over-simplification but it serves their purpose well.

In the above images we saw Biffers advocating the same atrocities committed by the Nazis in Germany and across occupied Europe. In the images below we see the extent of their racism, not only against Asians but against anyone who isn’t both white and Christian.

To imagine that Britain First isn’t motivated by both religious and racial bigotry is to be very naive indeed.

Racist and religiously motivated hate crime soars

It’s no great surprise that the UK is becoming more violent and aggressive toward ethnic minorities. There’s a rising tide of hatred, a fire fuelled by far right organisations like Britain First that blames immigrants, ethnic minorities and all non-Christians for the problems of UK.

EBF BF ban Islam ECHR blame Muslims FranceBritain First revels in this racist foam fest. It’s their bread and butter. The more fear and hatred they can create the more money they can con from their misguided, paranoid followers. So they spend their time creating posts that demonise ‘the other’. They radicalise their followers, turning them into violent and prejudiced foot-soldiers in a domestic, religious war that never really existed.

It’s true, of course, that Muslim extremists exist. It’s also true that a small number of these misguided individuals hail from the UK. But it’s not true that all British Muslims are secretly plotting to overthrow our nation and its laws. Nor is it true that people with dark skins are inferior or antisocial.

Recent hate crime figures suggest that the opposite is true. The greatest danger facing our society comes not from Muslims or brown people – it comes from the increasingly radicalised white, Christian population. This is the demographic that Britain First appeals to and it seems that, toothless though the organisation itself is, the Biffers are making an impact. It’s hard  to believe but these anti-Islamic comments from Biffers on Facebook match perfectly the anti-Semitic propaganda of mid twentieth century Nazi Germany.

EBF BF Nazi dehumanisation

Their hate-filled propaganda is destroying our society. Their lies are turning our once safe nation into a cess pit of intolerance and hostility. Their selfish quest for money depends entirely upon the fear and misery they create for so many of our fellow citizens.

There is a race related issue to attend to in the UK. There is a very real problem and it’s important that citizens of all creeds and colours are able to identify its source. The problem is not Islam. Nor is it immigration or ethnicity. The problem is far right neo-Nazi ideology, complete with racist overtones and violent religious intolerance.

A large part of the problem is Britain First!
