7 things Fascists don’t get about non-fascists
It’d be funny if it wasn’t so pitiful. Fascist groups like Britain First (BF) and the English Defence League (EDL) just don’t get why people disagree with them or the types of people who are proud to call themselves #Antifa.
We’ve listed the top 7 misunderstandings modern Fascists believe about the rest of us.
1. Antifascists are all extreme lefties
Antifascists come from almost every part of the political spectrum. From Communist to Conservative, Socialist to Liberal Democrat the only thing antifascists have in common is their dislike of extreme-right fascism.
2. Antifascists all support terrorists
Antifascists tend to support peoples’ right to be themselves and to make their own choices in the world. They tend to have a ‘live and let live’ attitude. That’s the complete opposite of terrorists who try to frighten people into conforming. Fascists by definition want everyone to conform to their own narrow ideas. Fascist suppress difference. That’s exactly why antifascists oppose them. Fascists are control-freaks.
3. Antifascists don’t understand reality
Antifascists tend to be better educated and better read than their extreme right neighbours. That’s why they’re not fascists.
Fascists like Britain First supporters usually have only a superficial grasp on the issues they face and are generally quite happy for others to direct their conformist thinking.
4. Antifascists hate their country
Most antifascists have no problem with their country. They may disagree with some national policies and they might even wish that some of the nation’s treasured institutions were different but that’s not about hatred – it’s about improvement.
Antifascists are brave enough to embrace difference and the possibility of change.
5. Antifascists hate white people (even white antifascists)
Not believing that white-skinned people are superior or deserving of special privilege doesn’t mean antifascists hate white people. It just means that they don’t think human rights depend upon skin colour. Humans are humans and that’s all.
6. Antifascists are cultural Marxists
It’s hardly surprising that fascists get this wrong. Most of them don’t even know what they mean by ‘cultural Marxism’. Go and ask one – it’s an education to watch them tie themselves up in knots trying to explain what they’ve just accused you of. It’s funny too!
7. Antifascists hate freedom of speech
Antifascists won’t censor you if you disagree with them. Nor will they attack or otherwise hurt you for disagreeing with them.
This is very different from Fascists. If you’re uncertain about this last point, why not forward this link to your extreme right wing neighbour and see what happens.
In summary we think that anti-fascism (not being a far right cockwomble) is something to be proud of. The fact that fascists and neo-nazis don’t understand what it means to disagree with them should make us all very grateful that we’re not like them.
Three cheers for the ‘not Nazis’ – especially those at Exposing Britain First!
